We'll be doing a short hike at Scholl Canyon before sitting down for a real picnic (like a picnic out of the movies, minus the cliche red and white checkered blanket and woven basket). Note: your signup fee will pay for your LUNCH, food selection to be determined democratically before the trip.

Sandstone peak, otherwise known as Mount Allen is a moderate hike in the Malibu area with great and varied scenery, well-maintained trails, and many landmarks and side trails to explore. We will be hiking with Professor Levitt who has received an impressive rating of 4.8 on Rate My Professors. One student proclaims he is hilarious, inspirational, and taught him that you can peel a tree if you tried carefully. Ready for some more fun facts and a beautiful view of the Santa Monica Mountains? Mount Lowe Trail w/ Iva Bozovic {International Relations}

Sometimes it can seem ambitious just to go for a hike in the rugged San Gabriel Mountains, but Thaddeus Lowe was way more determined than that, devising an incline tram and railway to bring guests to a resort, tavern, and mountain overlooks that he created in the San Gabriel Mountains about a century ago. His railway and resorts have long been destroyed, but hikers can still visit the remnants.

Casey Schreiner is the one-man show behind Modern Hiker, an outdoors website that details a dizzying number of hikes in the Southern California area. It's how we decide where to hike and we're stoked to talk with him about his experiences. We'll even be raffling off a signed copy of his book about hikes all over California. Eagle Rock w/ Broderick Leaks {Psychiatry and The Behavioral Sciences }

With its unique craggy surface and panoramic views, Eagle Rock is one of the most exciting hiking destinations in Topanga State Park. We'll be taking a different path down from Eagle Rock to allow us to see even more awesome views in the park. The park has many sedimentary sandstone rock formations, marine fossils, exposed earthquake faults, and volcanic intrusions, which we'll be on the look out for!

Mojave National Preserve w/ Michael Habib {Anatomy}

After you've conquered those midterm blues, join us for a weekend exploring the beautiful, bizarro world of the Mojave National Preserve. This massive desert preserve may just be one of the West's best kept secrets. We'll depart Friday afternoon and spend our weekend exploring massive "singing" sand dunes, lava tubes, abandoned mines, Joshua Tree forests, and so much more. At night, we'll camp in the desert backcountry under one of the darkest night skies in the country. This is one you're not going to want to miss.

Echo Mountain w/ Julie Suh {Accounting }

Come see if you can keep up with Levanthal's fitness fanatic, kombucha-loving and raw vegan food-cooking professor, Julie Suh, as we hike Echo Mountain! She was recently awarded Marshall and Levanthal's student-chosen, Golden Apple Award for Mentorship last semester and is overall known as a hilarious, extremely dedicated and caring accounting professor. Professor Suh will also be bringing her THREE adorable dogs on the hike, warning though, they're super fast hikers!
